WIAA introduces Retaina Vehicle ID system to protect against vehicle theft and cloning

MUMBAI, January 4, 2007: For the first in India, The Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), in association with Retaina Security Marking and Registration Systems, the global leader in vehicle security and property protection, introduces the unique Retaina Vehicle ID system to protect against vehicle theft and cloning. Mumbai Police Commissioner Mr. A. N. Roy (IPS), Mr. R. K. Joshi (CMD, General Insurance Corporation of India), Mr. Nitin Dossa (Executive Chairman, WIAA) and Mr. Deepak Kapadia (President, WIAA) launched the Retaina Vehicle ID system in Mumbai City.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nitin Dossa, Chairman, WIAA, said, “WIAA has pioneered the introduction of the globally acclaimed Retaina Vehicle ID system and its simple-to-use ‘Mark it! Register it! Retain it!’ proposition in India. The unique security system provides vehicle, personal and corporate property protection against vehicle theft and cloning. The system is based upon three simple but highly effective procedures --- Marking, Registration and Verification. It helps anyone --- police, motor dealers or the general public --- to establish a vehicle’s true identity.”

Using simple but technically sophisticated marking techniques linked to a secure Register, the Retaina Group system makes every item of marked / registered property instantly identifiable and ownership immediately verifiable with just one phone call. This not only deters theft and detects cloning, it also increases significantly the rate of recovery. The highlights of the Retaina Vehicle ID system include…
1. Marking
Items of value --- vehicles, computers, mobile phones, MP3 players, bicycles, home cinema systems, power tools . . . in fact any personal property that could be lost or stolen --- are permanently and visibly marked with an unique security code as well as the 24/7 contact telephone number of the International Security Register (ISR).
2. Registration
The ISR is a secure database, owned and operated exclusively by Retaina Group; and brought to India in association with the WIAA. It holds accurate details of ownership and other specific data --- such as vehicle key security codes --- for a wide range of marked property.
3. Verification
Operating 24 hours a day, every day of the year, the Retaina Group’s Global Security Gateway enables anyone --- the general public, businesses, police and security forces --- to instantly verify ownership of property listed on the Register with just one phone call to the ISR contact number. The ISR also operates a highly secure service for maintaining and providing to authorised parties under strict protocols, other highly sensitive information, such as vehicle security codes.

How the Retaina ID system can be installed…
Before starting the marking process, ensure that the side windows are fully closed. Wipe each area of the glass to be marked with a clean dry cloth. Do not wet the windows prior to the application of the stencils. Peel off the backing material from one of the stencils (retain backing material for later use). Place adhesive side of the stencil on the dry window as close to the corner as possible with the bottom of the stencil just overlapping the window rubber. Using the piece of backing material to avoid finger contact with the glass; press the letters and numerals against the glass very firmly to ensure a good bond. To allow the adhesive to harden leave the stencil for 1 minute before applying fluid. Apply fluid to stencil with the brush provided. Make sure that each letter and numeral is filled. Be careful not to put the fluid anywhere else on the glass. Leave for one and a half minutes. Wash off the fluid from the stencil using a sponge or cloth and plenty of water or a hand spray. Then peel off stencil. Repeat the process with the remaining windows. Note: It is important not to remove stencils until the fluid has been washed off. Markings do not become visible immediately. Leave glass to dry and they will gradually appear. Recommended position of warning stickers --- inside of the two front windows above or besides the markings

The Retaina Group, with over 20 years experience, is the UK’s leading supplier of security marking and registration systems to the Motor Industry. It currently holds information on over 90 lakh vehicles, 2.7 crore security codes and over 10 lakh valuable assets in the world.
